Why family session in Leipzig
A family photographer in Leipzig has an unusual amount of room to work with. Clara-Zetkin-Park runs into the floodplain forest with no visible edge, and that forest carries on for kilometres through the city. In practice that means open lawns for running, wide paths for a pushchair, and trees a few steps away to soften hard midday light. For a session with nobody lined up, it is close to ideal, because the background changes without anyone getting back into a car. Families living in the south of the city can use one of the lakes near Markkleeberg instead. We choose the spot according to where you live, so the journey with small children stays short.
From mid-April to early May wild garlic covers the forest floor under a canopy that is still open, giving two or three weeks of soft green light. Mid-October turns the park. In summer we move the session to late afternoon, once the heat has eased. Book around the afternoon nap rather than before it; for weekends, two to three weeks’ notice is sensible.
How the session runs
We start with the one posed photograph while everyone is still clean and patient: the group on a lawn or beneath the trees. After that the children set the pace. We walk along the water, look for sticks, play tag or sit on a blanket, and the photographer captures what happens. At 75 minutes we stop, even if the children could keep going, because parents’ patience counts too. The 40 edited photographs arrive in a private gallery within 48 to 72 hours.
