Why family session in Frankfurt
The best work a family photographer in Frankfurt does rarely has the skyline in it. It happens where your children already feel at home, because small children move differently on a familiar lawn than on a bridge full of commuters, and with a three-year-old every journey you avoid counts. Frankfurt makes this easy, since nearly every district has a park within walking distance: the Günthersburgpark in Nordend, the Grüneburgpark in the Westend, the Ostpark in the east, and the riverside meadows in Sachsenhausen. Which one we choose depends on your address and the children’s ages, meaning a playground nearby, shade in summer and a bench for the break. Families living outside the city have equally good options in the Kurpark in Bad Homburg or along the river in Offenbach, with no drive into town.
The loveliest months are May, June and September, plus October, when the leaves come down in the Grüneburgpark and the Günthersburgpark. In high summer we move the session to early evening so nobody squints into hard sun. More important than the season, though, is the children’s day: after the afternoon nap, never before it. Spring and autumn Saturdays are in demand, so allow three to four weeks or pick a weekday afternoon.
How the session runs
We meet at a park entrance we have chosen together beforehand. The first few minutes belong to the children, who show us the playground, the meadow or the tree they like to climb. The camera is already working, but nobody is asked to keep still. After about twenty minutes we take the one posed group photograph wherever the light is calmest, usually in dappled shade under the trees. After that we go back to observing, with breaks for snacks and the occasional tear. We finish at 75 minutes, before moods turn, and 40 edited photographs follow within 48 to 72 hours.
