Why corporate event in Frankfurt

As a corporate event photographer in Frankfurt, you rarely work in a plain hall. Conferences here happen on tower floors, in riverside hotel ballrooms and on terraces facing the skyline, which puts glass behind almost every speaker. In daylight that bright window makes both the stage and the audience look dim, so before the day we agree whether the blinds come down or the lectern stands side-on to the façade. After dark the relationship reverses: the lit skyline becomes the backdrop, but only for someone who works with a steady hand and slower exposures. The guest list shapes the job as well. International delegates, several languages and board members with ten spare minutes mean the people who must appear in the gallery are listed in advance, so nobody discovers afterwards that the chair was never photographed.

Frankfurt’s corporate calendar is busiest in autumn and in December, when Christmas parties crowd onto a handful of Thursdays and Fridays. Those evenings go early, and three to four months’ notice is sensible rather than cautious. Check as well whether your date lands in a major fair week, when hotels and function rooms are scarce and expensive. Group photographs belong before dinner, while everybody is still standing and jackets are still on.

How the session runs

A week before, we receive the running order and the list of shots that cannot be missed. On the day we arrive half an hour before doors to photograph the empty rooms with branding, stage and tables. During the talks we move between the stage and the audience without crossing sightlines, and use the breaks for networking frames. Guests wearing a different-coloured lanyard or sticker are kept out of the pictures. About two-thirds of the way through, a first selection goes to your communications team so posts can go out that evening, and the full gallery of 250 edited photographs follows within five working days.

    Deutschherrnufer und Flößerbrücke

    The standard skyline view, and rightly so: from here the river, the towers and their reflection are one frame. Twenty minutes after sunset the window light and the sky reach the same brightness — that is the window, and it lasts about a quarter of an hour.

    The footbridge between the old town and Sachsenhausen, padlocks on the railing and the skyline behind you. From nine it is a commuter route; before that it is yours, and the lattice throws long shadows across the deck.

    Römerberg

    Reconstructed timber gables around a small square — built tight, so it takes direct sun only between eleven and two and is evenly soft otherwise. From ten there is a tour group in it; in December there is a Christmas market in it for six weeks.

    Twenty hectares of botany with glasshouses that work in any weather — the most reliable wet-weather plan in the city. The palm house is big enough for a group, the tropical houses are not, and in winter every lens in there fogs in seconds.

    Main Tower, Aussichtsplattform

    Two hundred metres above the city and the only publicly accessible tower terrace in Frankfurt. The view runs south over the Main to the Taunus — but no tripods, so this is a place for the couple in the foreground rather than for a long exposure.

Questions

Are five hours enough for a full-day conference?

Not if every session needs covering. Either we extend the coverage, which is set out in the quote, or we place the five hours on the opening, the keynote, lunch and the panel. The second option is often enough, since afternoon talks rarely look different in photographs from morning ones.

How do you handle dark rooms and coloured stage lighting?

We use fast lenses and no flash during talks, so speakers are not distracted. Coloured LED light is corrected in editing until skin tones look natural again. It helps a great deal if the venue lights the lectern with white light, and we raise that with the technical team before the event.

Can you send images for LinkedIn while the event is still running?

Yes, that is what the first selection is for. We send it the same evening and can split it into two batches, for example after the opening and after the main programme. Tell us the formats your team posts in beforehand and the frames arrive already cropped vertical and horizontal.
