Why corporate headshots in Frankfurt

A headshot photographer in Frankfurt spends most working days surrounded by glass. Law firms, banks and consultancies here sit behind curtain walls, often high in a tower in the banking district or the Westend, with a view everyone wants behind them. The difficulty is that a sunlit window is far brighter than a face, so pointing the camera straight at it gives you either a silhouette or a white sky. Instead we place the camera across the glass, light the face with our own heads and let the skyline fall softly out of focus. The other Frankfurt habit is the multi-office set: portraits taken here that have to match colleagues photographed in another city, or new joiners next year. That only works when the set-up is written down, so we record lens, light position and wall distance.

Glass offices are easiest in the morning on west-facing floors and in the afternoon on east-facing ones; north-facing rooms work all day. For a team, Tuesday to Thursday gets the most people into the room. If your firm exhibits at the Buchmesse, Ambiente or another large fair, avoid those weeks altogether, because nobody will be at their desk. A single appointment can usually be arranged at short notice, while a whole team calendar needs three to four weeks.

How the session runs

We arrive with lights, a backdrop and a laptop and set up in a meeting room of about four by three metres, which takes around half an hour. The neutral background comes first, then the environmental one: a corridor, a glass partition or the city outside, deliberately soft. One person has the full 30 minutes; a team runs at ten minutes a head from a schedule your office manager circulates beforehand. Everyone sees their frames on screen and flags favourites before going back to work. Within 48 hours each person receives 15 to 20 retouched photographs, cropped square and at 4:5.

    The standard skyline view, and rightly so: from here the river, the towers and their reflection are one frame. Twenty minutes after sunset the window light and the sky reach the same brightness — that is the window, and it lasts about a quarter of an hour.

    The footbridge between the old town and Sachsenhausen, padlocks on the railing and the skyline behind you. From nine it is a commuter route; before that it is yours, and the lattice throws long shadows across the deck.

    Römerberg

    Reconstructed timber gables around a small square — built tight, so it takes direct sun only between eleven and two and is evenly soft otherwise. From ten there is a tour group in it; in December there is a Christmas market in it for six weeks.

    Twenty hectares of botany with glasshouses that work in any weather — the most reliable wet-weather plan in the city. The palm house is big enough for a group, the tropical houses are not, and in winter every lens in there fogs in seconds.

    Main Tower, Aussichtsplattform

    Two hundred metres above the city and the only publicly accessible tower terrace in Frankfurt. The view runs south over the Main to the Taunus — but no tripods, so this is a place for the couple in the foreground rather than for a long exposure.

Questions

Does our building need to register you before the session?

That is the building’s rule rather than ours. Many Frankfurt office towers ask tenants to register outside contractors with reception or security, sometimes with names and ID details, and larger kit may have to use the goods lift. Send us the requirements when you book and we will supply what they need in good time.

Can the Frankfurt portraits match those from our other offices?

Yes, provided we can see what already exists. Send two or three existing portraits from London, Zurich or wherever your colleagues sit, and we will read the light direction, focal length and background tone from them and rebuild the same look here. We also document our own set-up so the next office can follow it.

Is it cheaper to bring you in for the whole team?

From about six people, yes, because the set-up is only paid for once. A single session starts at €200; for a team the price depends on headcount and the time window. Tell us the team size, the address and two possible days in your enquiry and we will reply by phone or email with a fixed quote.
