Why property photography in Frankfurt
A property photographer in Frankfurt works for one of the most expensive housing markets in Germany, where buyers and tenants scrutinise every listing. People paying that much per square metre want to see exactly what they are getting, and the city offers two very different kinds of stock. Period buildings in Nordend, the Westend and Bornheim have high ceilings, plasterwork and wooden floors, yet rooms facing the rear courtyard are often dim; the task there is to show the ceiling height without converging verticals. New builds in the Europaviertel and upper-floor flats sell the view instead. In those, the window is the main subject, and a blown-out white frame removes precisely what the premium is for. So we shoot bracketed exposures, keeping both the room and the outlook detailed in a single frame.
The appointment follows the direction the windows face. Flats looking north towards the skyline, from Sachsenhausen for instance, are photographed in bright daylight, since the sun is never in the glass. South-facing rooms work best early in the morning or late in the afternoon. If you want an evening frame with the towers lit, we time the visit so its final twenty minutes fall into blue hour. Winter days are short, so we prefer the hours around midday then.
How the session runs
On arrival we walk through the main rooms without the camera and set the order by the light. Then we photograph room by room from corners and doorways, on a tripod with straight verticals, taking several exposures for the room and the window each time. Lamps are on, blinds are up and personal items are already put away. Details such as plasterwork, a fitted kitchen or the balcony come next, followed by the façade, the entrance and the street, and if useful the nearest park or U-Bahn station. We finish within 30 minutes, and 15 to 20 edited photographs cropped for brochures and portals arrive within 48 hours.
