Why corporate headshots in Berlin

A headshot photographer in Berlin rarely works in a glossy corporate lobby. Many companies here sit in converted courtyards, Altbau floors or shared workspaces, and those rooms make better backgrounds than a plain studio wall — exposed brick, timber, a stairwell with daylight. At the same time, a team page needs consistency, especially when people join at different times or split their week between home and the office. That is why the work is done with portable lighting set up the same way wherever it goes. A headshot made in Friedrichshain in spring then matches the one added for a new colleague in Mitte in autumn. Individuals can book as well, but from about six people an office visit is the cheaper arrangement.

Mornings work best, before meetings break up the day and faces get tired. For teams, one fixed day with ten-minute slots per person keeps disruption low. Ahead of a trade fair, a conference or a website launch the calendar fills, so allow two or three weeks. New starters can be added later with the identical set-up, and the series still reads as one.

How the session runs

The set-up needs a room of roughly four by three metres with one clear wall, plus ten minutes to build. Windows help but are not essential, since we bring our own light. People come in one at a time, see a few frames on screen, and are back at their desk in around ten minutes. A second, environmental background is set up elsewhere in the office — against brick, or by a window onto the courtyard. Fifteen retouched photographs per person follow within 48 hours, cropped square and 4:5 for profiles.

    Oberbaumbrücke und Landwehrkanal

    The bridge faces west along the Spree, so the evening sun sits inside it. The Landwehrkanal alongside is ten minutes of plane trees with no tourists in it, and works all year — in winter because the bare branches let the reflections in the water through.

    Three hundred hectares of runway with not one building behind it — the only place in Berlin with a real horizon. Which is exactly why it is the best backlight in the city and the worst place in a wind, and there is always a wind.

    Museumsinsel und Bodemuseum

    The prow of the Bode-Museum splits the Spree and is the one Berlin frame that needs no explaining. At seven it is yours; from ten the coach parties are standing on the Monbijou bridge you photograph it from.

    Viktoriapark und Kreuzberg

    The only hill the city has: sixty-six metres, an artificial waterfall and a view north over the roofs. Not a mountain, but the one place a Berlin session gets any height at all.

    Sowjetisches Ehrenmal und Plänterwald, Treptow

    A three-hundred-metre axis between weeping willows, built to make people look small — which is exactly why it works for two of them. The Plänterwald next to it is actual forest, ten minutes from the S-Bahn, and in October the best colour in the city.

Questions

Do you photograph English-speaking teams?

Yes. Direction, on-screen feedback and the selection all work in English or German, and mixed teams are normal in Berlin. Send the list of names beforehand, and each person gets a time slot so nobody has to wait around.

I need a headshot for a job search. Can I book just for myself?

Yes. A single session runs thirty minutes and includes both backgrounds and 15 to 20 retouched frames. Without an office, we agree on a suitable room in advance — a quiet space with one free wall is enough. The files arrive within 48 hours, which fits most application deadlines.

Can new team members be added later so the photos match?

That is part of the approach. Light position, distance, background and framing are recorded on the first day, and later sessions reproduce them. A colleague who joins six months later therefore appears on the team page without looking as though they were photographed somewhere else.
