Why honeymoon session in Black Forest
A honeymoon photoshoot in the Black Forest works best when it stays close to where you are sleeping. Most couples here settle in one base, perhaps a spa hotel in Baden-Baden, a lakeside guesthouse at the Titisee or a farm stay near Gengenbach, and make day trips from it. The session should not turn into one more of those trips. Ninety minutes covers two places a short walk apart, so we choose them around your base: the Lichtentaler Allee beside the river Oos in Baden-Baden, the lake path at the Titisee, or the half-timbered lanes of Gengenbach followed by the vineyards at the edge of town. The one exception worth a drive is the ridge of the Hornisgrinde above the valley fog, for couples willing to rise before dawn in October.
Most honeymooners arrive between May and October. In May the forest is fresh and the waterfalls are at their fullest; in September and October the light warms and the valleys fill with morning fog. Summer evenings by the lakes are lovely but busy, so we start ninety minutes before sunset and finish as day visitors head home. Send us your travel dates once they are fixed, because the best hour depends on which way your valley faces.
How the session runs
Before you travel we agree a meeting point near your accommodation and check the direction of the light for your date. The first location is usually the quieter one and nearer your door, so early nerves settle without an audience. After about forty minutes we walk on to the second, timed for the lowest sun or, on an autumn morning, for the fog lifting. Wear shoes that can manage a forest path and bring an extra layer, as evenings in the hills cool quickly. Your 40 edited photographs follow within 48 to 72 hours, usually before you have left for home.
