Because the old town faces north, the skyline is an afternoon subject seen from across the water, while the terrace is at its best in the morning. We plan the session around where you are staying and when you are free, so it fits into your honeymoon rather than the other way round.

September and October give the clearest light and pleasant temperatures, which suits a honeymoon well. Summer afternoons are warm and bright; the skyline is best in the last two hours before sunset. How the session runs

An afternoon session begins on the Neustadt meadow, with the old town across the water and the river in front, then crosses the Augustus Bridge to finish on the Brühl Terrace as the lights come on. A morning session reverses the order. If you plan a paddle steamer trip upstream to Pillnitz, the session can be timed around it, though the palace park itself needs permission for commercial photography. Forty edited photographs of the two of you follow two or three days after the session.

    The meadow opposite the old town, from which the whole silhouette fits into one frame. It sits lower than the terrace across the water, so you get river in the foreground, and it is wide enough that a wedding party is in nobody’s way.

    The "balcony of Europe": five hundred metres of raised walk above the Elbe with a staircase down to the Schlossplatz. From here you see the Neustadt rather than the old town — the counterpart to the Canaletto view, and in the morning it is the side with the light on it.

    Kunsthofpassage, Äußere Neustadt

    Five designed courtyards, among them the "courtyard of the elements" with drainpipes that play when it rains. This is the counterweight to the baroque old town, and the best place in Dresden for a session that should not look historical.

Can the session include the paddle steamer to Pillnitz?

The trip itself can be part of your day, and the public riverbank at Pillnitz is free to photograph. The palace park charges admission and requires prior permission for commercial photography, so if you want it in the photographs, tell us early and we will apply.

What should we wear for a honeymoon session in Dresden?

Something you would happily wear to dinner in the old town, in solid colours rather than busy patterns. Comfortable shoes matter, since there are cobbles and steps between the riverbank and the terrace. In autumn, bring a layer for the breeze along the Elbe.

Can we do the session on our last morning before leaving?

Yes, and a morning is a good choice here. The Brühl Terrace and the old town are quieter early, and the terrace faces the light then. We will plan a finish time that leaves a comfortable margin for checking out and reaching the station or airport.
