Why personal branding in Düsseldorf

A personal branding photographer in Düsseldorf works for clients whose own customers judge quickly by image: consultants, coaches, designers, independent lawyers, people in fashion and beauty, and international founders who have set up here for the business network. The city helps, because it offers distinct visual languages within easy reach of one another. The Medienhafen reads as architecture and creative industry, the Königsallee as retail and premium service, Immermannstraße as urban and international, the Hofgarten as calm. Which fits you is a question for the briefing, not for the day. And the most useful pictures are rarely outdoors at all. They are taken where you actually work, because that is what a potential client wants to see before booking you.

Allow some time between briefing and shoot so that outfits, props and locations are settled. For outdoor frames in the Medienhafen, early evening or a weekend is better, because on weekdays the area is full of office traffic. Work-in-progress frames, by contrast, look best on an ordinary weekday, when your space is in use. If the images are needed for a launch or a conference, count back a week for delivery.

How the session runs

After a briefing on visual style and intended use, we split the 150 minutes across three situations. First, portraits at your workplace or against a suitable facade nearby. Second, you at work: at a laptop, with a client, with your materials or tools. Third, conversation, ideally with a colleague or friendly client who is happy to join. If your office is near the Medienhafen or the Kö, we step outside for part of the time. Every situation is shot in portrait, landscape and square, and 60 edited photographs follow within a week.

Where we photograph in Düsseldorf

  1. 01

    Rheinuferpromenade

Two kilometres of plane trees with steps down to the water, open to the west. This is the one place on the Rhine where the sun sets over the river instead of behind a building, and on a summer evening several thousand people are sitting on those steps from seven.

    Best time:
    The last hour before sunset
    Permit:
    Free — public promenade
  2. 02

    Medienhafen und Gehry-Bauten

Three curved blocks, one of them in polished steel that reflects whatever stands in front of it. On a weekday this is office traffic; in the evening and at the weekend it is empty — and that is the difference between a portrait and a portrait with forty passers-by in it.

    Best time:
After office hours, or on a Sunday
    Permit:
Free — public routes; some courtyards are private property
  3. 03

    Hofgarten und Schloss Jägerhof

The oldest public park in Germany: mature trees, a pond, and a small rococo palace at the edge of it. Five minutes on foot from the Königsallee and still quiet — the default for family and maternity sessions when the brief is green.

    Best time:
    Late morning
    Permit:
    Free — public park
  4. 04

    Rheinturm und Landtagsufer

Two hundred and forty metres with a light sculpture that tells the time, and the curved parliament building on the water in front of it. From the bank you get both plus the Rheinknie bridge in one frame — a subject that only works after sunset.

    Best time:
    Blue hour
    Permit:
Riverside path free. Observation deck: admission, no tripods
  5. 05

    Immermannstraße, Japanisches Viertel

Two hundred metres of Japanese signage, bookshops and restaurants that come up in neon in the evening. There is nothing else like it in Germany, and it is the answer for any session that should look urban without looking like an old town.

    Best time:
    Weekdays, late afternoon
    Permit:
Free — public street; shop interiors only with consent

Questions

Can we shoot in a café or coworking space?

Only with the operator's permission, ideally in writing beforehand. It often works outside peak hours, provided other guests are not recognisable in the frame. We can help you word the request and plan the shoot so that it does not disrupt anyone's business.

I am new to Düsseldorf. Should my photos show the city?

A little, if your clients are local and you want to signal that you are established here. One or two recognisable backdrops, such as the Medienhafen, are enough; more than that turns a brand set into a travel album. Most frames should still be about you and your work.

How many outfits should I bring?

One per situation, so two or three in all. Choose colours that sit well with your website and avoid fine stripes or large logos. Near the reflective facades in the Medienhafen, muted tones tend to look calmer than bright white.
