A couple photoshoot in Düsseldorf starts with geography. The Rhine bends west as it passes the old town, so the promenade faces the sunset directly and the light comes in low across the water rather than dropping behind rooftops. That alone would justify the city, but the Medienhafen lies a short walk south: Gehry's curved blocks, a polished steel facade and quiet streets once the offices empty. Our couple session is built around two locations on foot, and here those two could hardly be more different — soft, moving light under plane trees, then hard reflections and clean geometry. For visitors staying near the Königsallee, the Hofgarten is a green alternative five minutes away, and Immermannstraße offers neon and Japanese signage for anyone who wants the city to look like a city.
Between May and September, plan to start about an hour before sunset, which in midsummer means half past seven or later. Weekday evenings are calmer on the promenade steps, which fill with people at weekends. In winter, blue hour in the Medienhafen begins around half past four and the floodlit facades carry the frames, so an early-evening slot works well. If you are visiting during carnival, choose another day; the riverside and old town are packed.
How the session runs
We usually meet on the riverbank below the old town and spend the first minutes simply walking, so the camera stops being the point. The steps down to the water give backlight and a lower angle as the sun drops. Once it has set, we walk roughly twelve minutes past the Rheinturm and the state parliament into the Medienhafen, where steel and glass hold the last colour in the sky. Ninety minutes covers both, and your 40 edited photographs arrive in a private gallery within 48 to 72 hours.
