Why holiday and city session in Dresden
A Dresden photoshoot for visitors works well because the sights are so close together. In one hour on foot you can take in the Elbe, the old-town skyline, the Brühl Terrace and the Frauenkirche, without wasting time on transport. The one decision that changes everything is the time of day. The old town faces north across the river, so in the afternoon we photograph it from the Neustadt bank, and in the morning we stand on the Brühl Terrace and look the other way. For visitors on a river cruise or a short city break, that means the route is chosen to fit whichever hour you have free, rather than asking you to reorganise your trip.
Summer afternoons on the Neustadt meadow give the classic skyline view; mornings suit the Brühl Terrace and the quieter old town. Autumn brings the clearest light. From late November until Christmas the Striezelmarkt adds lights and stalls but also crowds, so an early slot helps. In January, morning fog on the Elbe can make for the most atmospheric photographs.
How the session runs
The afternoon route starts on the Neustadt meadow with the whole skyline across the water, then crosses the Augustus Bridge into the old town. The morning route begins on the Brühl Terrace and drops down the steps to the Schlossplatz and on to the Frauenkirche. For a less historical look, an hour in the Äußere Neustadt courtyards and streets is the alternative. Your 30 edited photographs from the Dresden walk are delivered two to three days later.
