We are only on the lake for a few days. How much notice do you need?
Two to three weeks is comfortable, since it leaves time to agree the place and signal by email. Shorter notice is possible if a date is free. Tell us where you are staying and which mornings or evenings you have, and we suggest the location that fits both the light and your plans.
Can the proposal happen on Mainau island?
Only with preparation. Mainau is run by a foundation, charges admission to everyone including the photographer, and commercial photography needs prior agreement with Mainau GmbH. For a proposal it is usually simpler to choose Lindau or Meersburg, which need no arrangement and offer just as much lake.
What if my partner does not want to get up at sunrise?
Then Lindau at sunrise is the wrong plan, and a suspiciously early alarm may give the game away anyway. Choose Meersburg or Birnau in the late afternoon instead, framed as a walk before dinner. The light is warm, the view over the lake is open and nobody has to explain the early start.
