In summer an evening proposal means meeting around half past eight; in October, closer to six. If you are visiting, fix the date a few weeks ahead so the spot can be checked at the right hour.

Before the day, we agree on three things over email or a call: the exact spot where you will stop, the time, and the signal that shows it is about to happen. The photographer arrives ten minutes early and sets up at a distance with a long lens, looking like anyone photographing the view. In Viktoriapark that usually means the path below the monument; in Treptow, one side of the avenue. Once the question is asked, the photographer walks over and we spend thirty minutes on portraits nearby. A first selection reaches you the same evening, with 35 edited photographs in total.

FAQ — Proposal session in Berlin
We are only in Berlin for a few days. Can you help choose the spot?
Yes, and that is the usual case. Tell us where you are staying, what time of day you have and roughly what you picture, and we will suggest two or three places with photographs of each. The shortlist takes into account how far you will need to travel, so the walk to the spot does not give anything away.
What happens if it rains on the day?
Light rain rarely stops a proposal, and an umbrella often improves the frames. In heavier rain the colonnades around the Alte Nationalgalerie give shelter with a view, and they are worth agreeing as a backup spot in advance. If you only have one possible day, it helps to have that alternative fixed before you arrive.
Could the proposal happen on a boat on the Spree?
On a public tour boat it is hard to keep a photographer unnoticed and to control where you sit. A private boat is a different matter, but that has to be arranged with the operator. For a surprise, a spot on the riverbank photographed from across the water is usually the more reliable option.
