Which one we choose depends on your address and the children’s ages, meaning a playground nearby, shade in summer and a bench for the break. Families living outside the city have equally good options in the Kurpark in Bad Homburg or along the river in Offenbach, with no drive into town.
The loveliest months are May, June and September, plus October, when the leaves come down in the Grüneburgpark and the Günthersburgpark. In high summer we move the session to early evening so nobody squints into hard sun. More important than the season, though, is the children’s day: after the afternoon nap, never before it. Spring and autumn Saturdays are in demand, so allow three to four weeks or pick a weekday afternoon.
What does the session in Frankfurt look like?
We meet at a park entrance we have chosen together beforehand. The first few minutes belong to the children, who show us the playground, the meadow or the tree they like to climb. The camera is already working, but nobody is asked to keep still. After about twenty minutes we take the one posed group photograph wherever the light is calmest, usually in dappled shade under the trees. Can we have the session in the Palmengarten?
Yes, with two conditions. Admission is charged per person, and commercial photography must be registered in advance and carries a separate fee, which we arrange. In return it is the most reliable place in the city when the weather turns, because the palm house has room for a whole family. Weekday mornings are quietest.
We live in Darmstadt. Will you come to us?
Yes. Darmstadt, like Offenbach, Hanau, Bad Homburg, Wiesbaden and Mainz, is within our area at no extra charge. The Herrngarten is one good option there; otherwise we pick a park near you. Mention your neighbourhood in the enquiry and we will suggest two places.
Can grandparents or the dog join in?
Of course; just tell us beforehand so we can plan the time. With grandparents we take the group photograph earlier and close to a bench. Dogs on a lead are welcome in most Frankfurt parks, but the Palmengarten has its own rules, so we would choose somewhere else.
