Why choose Couple session in Frankfurt?

A couple photoshoot in Frankfurt benefits from a layout most cities do not have. The skyline rises on the north bank, so it is photographed from the south, and only footbridges and a river roughly two hundred metres wide separate the two. That means you do not have to pick between a big city and an old town. On the Eiserner Steg the towers stand behind you; ten minutes later you are on the cobbles of Alt-Sachsenhausen between timber-framed houses. The real question is the order, and light answers it. The towers need low side light or blue hour, while the narrow lanes fall into shade at exactly that time. So an evening session usually begins in the old quarter and finishes on the riverbank as the office windows start to glow.

April to June and September to October give the best balance of low sun and mild evenings. In high summer the useful hour starts late and the Deutschherrnufer is packed. Between November and February an early evening slot pays off, because blue hour begins at around five and the lit skyline is done before dinner. If you want the Eiserner Steg without commuters, meet before nine in the morning.

What does the session in Frankfurt look like?

We meet at the Sachsenhausen end of the Eiserner Steg. For the first quarter of an hour we walk through the lanes of Alt-Sachsenhausen, talking and getting used to the camera, and the first location follows among the half-timbered houses and cider taverns. From there it is a few minutes back to the Main, onto the footbridge with the skyline behind you, then along the south bank to the Deutschherrnufer, where the session ends in blue hour. You will not need a car, but comfortable shoes help. If rain threatens, we decide together in the morning whether to go with umbrellas or move to another evening.

FAQ — Couple session in Frankfurt

Can we include the Main Tower viewing platform?

It is possible, with limits: admission is charged per person, tripods are not allowed and commercial photography needs prior arrangement, which we handle before the date. The view south over the river is wide, but the terrace gets busy and windy. It works better as an addition to the riverbank than as the only location.

How crowded is the riverside at weekends?

On warm Saturdays, very, and during the Museumsuferfest weekend in late August a quiet session there is hardly realistic. On weekdays and early mornings the same bank feels like another place. If a weekend is your only option, we save the riverside for the end, when walkers head off to dinner.

We are visiting. How do we get to the meeting point?

From the main station it is a few stops on the U-Bahn to Dom/Römer, then a five-minute walk to the Eiserner Steg. If you are driving, leave the car in a multi-storey car park in Sachsenhausen. Once the session starts you will not need any transport at all.
