Why choose Newborn session in Hamburg?
A newborn session with our photographer in Hamburg happens in your own flat, lit by your own windows rather than by flash, which makes Hamburg’s daylight part of the plan. In winter it is scarce. By December it is dark around half past three and weakening well before that, so the session has to sit squarely in the middle of the day and in whichever room holds the most light. Many older Hamburg flats — in Eimsbüttel, Winterhude or Ottensen — have tall windows that make this easy. And the city’s grey skies, much complained about, are an advantage here: overcast light is soft and even, which is exactly what newborn skin wants.
The session happens within the first three weeks after birth, and it is best pencilled in during pregnancy using the due date as a marker. Once the baby arrives you get in touch and we fix the day. In summer the time is flexible. From November to February we start in late morning so the full two hours fall in daylight.
What does the session in Hamburg look like?
Beforehand we ask which room has the biggest window; the bed or sofa goes there and the heating goes up a little. That is the whole preparation. The two hours follow the baby: feeding, changing and sleeping come first, and photographs happen in the calm stretches between. Parents and older siblings are part of it. There are no heaps of props and no positions a baby would not take up on its own. Thirty edited photographs from those two hours are delivered to a private gallery inside a week.
What does the package include?
The Newborn session package in Hamburg covers: 30 edited photographs; At home, in daylight rather than flash; Two hours, with breaks for feeding and changing; Parents and siblings included; Private gallery within a week. Nothing is added to the price after the session. It takes place indoors, so street permits do not apply.
FAQ — Newborn session in Hamburg
Our windows are small. Will there be enough light?
Usually, as long as the timing is right. We identify the brightest room together and put the session in the middle of the day — in a Hamburg winter, roughly between eleven and half past three. The framing is close, so one window is enough if the baby can lie near it.
We are new to Hamburg and our families are abroad. Can they be included?
In the photographs, only the people present can appear, but the gallery is private and easy to share with relatives anywhere. Some families time the session for a week when a grandparent is visiting; as long as it falls within the first three weeks, that works well.
What if the baby arrives early or late?
That is what the provisional booking allows for. The date is only fixed after the birth, so a baby two weeks early or late simply moves it. Contact us in the first few days and we find a day within the three-week window.
