Why choose Restaurant and food in Cologne?
A food photographer in Cologne works across two quite different traditions. The brewhouses serve Kölsch in slim glasses under dark wood, with dishes that are hearty rather than delicate. Newer kitchens in Ehrenfeld, the Südstadt and the Belgian Quarter plate carefully in bright rooms. Both need photographs that match what a guest will actually find, and a single house style applied to every venue gets that wrong. A brewhouse plate should look generous, not like tasting-menu food, and a refined menu should not be lit like a canteen. International owners opening in Cologne often underestimate this, so the first conversation is about who the guests are. The shoot happens in your room, with your own tableware, in the light your diners see, supplemented only where it is missing.
The classic slot is between lunch and dinner service, roughly three to five in the afternoon. Many Cologne brewhouses stay open all day, though, and there a morning before opening works better. For a new menu, schedule the shoot two or three weeks before launch so the website and delivery platforms are ready in time. Carnival week and the days of major fairs leave most kitchens too busy for a calm session.
What does the session in Cologne look like?
We bring our own lighting, set up at a table near a window and agree the order of dishes with the kitchen. Each plate is prepared fresh and photographed straight away, before sauces spread or the head on a Kölsch collapses. Between dishes we photograph the dining room and the team at work, only as far as service allows. Up to twelve dishes in three hours is realistic if the kitchen is prepared. You receive thirty edited photographs in portrait and landscape crops within five working days.
What does the package include?
The Restaurant and food package in Cologne covers: 30 edited photographs; Up to twelve dishes plus room and team frames; Scheduled between services; Portrait and landscape crops for the menu, the site and delivery platforms; Gallery within five working days. Nothing is added to the price after the session. It takes place indoors, so street permits do not apply.
FAQ — Restaurant and food in Cologne
We are opening a new restaurant. Should we shoot before or after opening?
Shortly before, once the menu is final and the room is fully furnished. That gives you images for the launch, the website and the delivery platforms from day one. If the room is not quite finished, photograph the dishes first and add a short room session once the last details are in place.
Do we need to prepare the dishes differently for photographs?
Not really. Plate them as you would for a guest, perhaps slightly more carefully, and send them out one at a time. We avoid food styling tricks that would make the dish look different from what arrives at the table, because guests notice and it undermines the menu.
Can staff appear in the photographs?
Yes, and kitchen and service shots are often the most used. Anyone who appears should agree to it, particularly if the images will be used in advertising. Tell your team in advance, so those who prefer not to be photographed can stay out of frame without an awkward conversation on the day.
